What the Consular Officer Is Really Looking For

The officer wants to confirm that your relationship is real, that your answers are truthful, and that your interview answers match the forms and evidence already submitted with your I-129F petition.

Interview rule: answer honestly, stay consistent with your forms, and avoid overexplaining.

The Top 10 K1 Visa Interview Questions

1. How did you and your fiancé(e) meet?

Keep your answer simple, real, and consistent with the relationship history statement submitted with the original I-129F petition.

2. When and where did you first meet in person?

Your dates and location should match what was provided in the I-129F petition and supporting evidence.

3. How often do you communicate?

Show that communication is regular and consistent. Bring examples such as chats, call records, and video logs if appropriate.

4. What do you love about your fiancé(e)?

Give a personal, heartfelt answer. Use specific examples instead of generic statements.

5. When did you get engaged?

Your answer should match the I-129F petition and the relationship history statement.

6. Have you met each other’s families?

Answer honestly. If you have met, describe the circumstances. If not, explain why, such as distance, timing, culture, or travel limits.

7. What are your wedding plans?

Share the type of ceremony, possible location, timing after arrival, who may attend, and any reception or honeymoon plans. “We haven’t decided yet” is usually not a strong answer.

8. What does your fiancé(e) do for work?

Show that you know your fiancé(e)’s job, company, work routine, and basic responsibilities.

9. Where will you live once you arrive in the U.S.?

Be prepared to provide the city or address and describe whether it is temporary or intended to be your longer-term home.

10. Have you ever been denied a U.S. visa before?

Be honest and provide details. Hiding negative immigration history is worse than explaining it truthfully.
